We had an awesome Brainstart this morning dealing with the measurement of matter and the operation known none other then division! Since division is a new concept for us, we were explained to that division is the opposite of multiplication and therefore related to one another. We also discussed that division is basically dividing or splitting a number of items in equal amounts!
For Writer's Workshop, we began our writing unit on persuasion/opinion writing! We discussed how to state an opinion/claim/thesis, and then provide reasons that support the opinion/claim/thesis. We then also added a warrant/ elaboration/details that explain how our reasons support our claim!
For reading, we read another chapter from Wonder, by R. J. Palacio and continued to work on determining a character's point-of-view. After the read-aloud, we came up with a claim (which is determining the main character's point-of-view), provided evidence from a text to support our claim, and then we provided a warrant to explain how/why the evidence supports the claim!
"How does August feel after the first day of school?"
For math today we got into collaborative groups and did rotations! Each rotation had us solving one- or two-step word problems using the four operations. We represented these problems using equations and solved for the solutions using various mathematical strategies and tools!
An example of a rotation!
Utilizing the commutative property, pictures, break apart, and add-by-place to handle these problems!
Collaborating like bosses!
And that's a wrap up folks! Cheers, and have a good one!
