Happy Wednesday Folks!
We started the day out with a Brainstart, which was meant to gauge our understanding of fractions!
We realized that we were a bit rusty on the math concept of fractions, so we went over, first, comparing fractions by using a visual representation!
We also discussed how there are multiple ways to represent a fraction, and no matter how the fraction is shown, it will always be the same. 3/4 will always be 3/4 no matter how you slice and dice it! A major a-ha moment for a lot of us!
 |
| These can't all represent 3/4! Some look larger than others! |
 |
| OMG! They're all the same! |
After recess, we got into collaborative groups and analyzed an article about paleontologists finding new species of dinosaurs from the fossils they have uncovered! We close read to determine three keywords for each paragraph of the article. We then utilized those keywords to form a sentence that
paraphrases the paragraph! Excelsior!
After lunch, we went discussed how to strengthen our questions in order to make them more meaningful for research (basically having a question that will elicit a simple answer, through research, into a questions that will elicit a more thorough, detailed, meaningful answer)!
 |
| Turning this.... |
 |
| Into this, |
 |
| This, |
 |
| And this, |
 |
| By utilizing one of these strategies! |
Near the end of the day, we read another chapter of
Chocolate Fever, and gave an opinion using textual evidence! We also provided a warrant that explains how.why the evidence supports the claim! We need to practice the skill of giving an appropriate opinion because practice makes better!
And that's a wrap up folks! Cheers, and have a good one!
