In the morning, we utilized Achieve 3000 to work on our non-fiction reading skills!Even though the paraphrasing strategy is new to us, we gave it a shot, and tried to apply it to the Achieve 3000 articles we're close reading!
After a session on Achieve 3000, we got into collaborative groups and continued to work on paraphrasing! We noticed that even though some groups had different key words, those different key words triggered similar important information! Ultimately, it doesn't matter what key words one chooses, as long as the key word triggers relevant info that pertains to the paragraph that one is paraphrasing! We then took our key words, and in our groups, made sure that all were in agreement when penning a sentence (that paraphrases the paragraph) using the key words!
For math, we went over anonymous pieces of student work, and discussed the DOs when taking an math assessment:
- DO check your work at each step; if you check your work near the end you most likely will not find where in you process you made the mistake!
- DO show your work in a neat manner; if it's not legible (messy), it won't count!
- DO reader over the information and problems to make sure you truly answered the question; showing your process is great, but if you didn't answer the question, it doesn't count!
| Using key words to paraphrase! Yeah buddy! |
- On the internet, treat others the way you want to be treated, just like in life!
- Inappropriate posts, comments etc. just begets more inappropriate comments (say no to internet flaming!)
- Communicate clearly by having what you write straight to the point.
- Make sure what you write is easy to read and understand by being aware of your audience (i.e. texting language won't work for an e-mail being sent to a college administrator!)
- humor isn't obvious in writing especially on the internet; without seeing your expression or hear your voice, people on the internet will misconstrue your "humorous" comment
- The internet is not a private place. Anything you delete, will still leave a "footprint" on the web, and anybody could possibly uncover what you deleted! If you wouldn't want your parents, teachers, principal to see something you post, then don't post it!
