Howdy Folks!
We started the day off with a Hicklebee's preview!
We then hopped onto Achieve 3000 to work on our non-fiction reading comprehension skills such as asking and answering questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers, or determining the main idea of a text, recounting the key details and explaining how they support the main idea, or using text features and search tools (e.g., key words, sidebars, hyperlinks) to locate information relevant to a given topic efficiently! Booyah!
Coming back from recess, we put on our environmentalist spectacles and analyzed the term deforestation and the causes of deforestation if rainforests!
Since one of the causes of deforestation is the need for wood (used for building materials and to make paper with), one student asked exactly how paper is made. So we had a Brain Break!
We then described the steps in this technical procedure, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect!
During math today we focused on explaining our process in finding the area of an irregular shape in order to justify our solution!
Near the end of the day, we began to read the Lorax (it is Dr. Suess' b-day after all), and began to make connections with what's happening in the book to what's happening to our rainforests!
And that about does it for Monday Funday! Cheers, y'all!
