Howdy folks!
I'm so stoked about the first day tomorrow! I can't hardly wait!
I just wanted to go over some points that I want to be focusing in on this year:
First off, the students and I are going to be relying heavily on Thinking Maps to explain what's going on in our minds when we reading, writing, or figuring out a math concepts. Thinking Maps are visual tools for learning, and hopefully, students will be enabled to move from concrete to abstract concepts, think with
depth, and directly apply their thinking to complex tasks by using these graphic organizers.
We'll also will be applying the Kaplan Icons (I call them Thinking Pathways) to further extend our learning and promote depth and complexity in our thinking. These icons were created to represent elements
that generate a deeper, more complex thought process. Students involved
in the learning process - whether it is reading text, watching a film,
or listening to a presentation - can apply elements of depth and
complexity as they begin to assimilate new information, make
connections, and dig deeper.
Oh, and we are applying the Writer's Workshop method when we write. I'm super excited about this, as it will add structures such as modeling writing
techniques, direct writing instruction in the form of mini-lessons, and conferring with students as they move through the writing
process. At the same time, the students will have the autonomy to make their writing exciting and authentic. Their writing pieces will be theirs to call their own!
Let me know if you have any questions! Cheers y'all and here's to an awesome day tomorrow!
