Roast Beef Sandwich

Howdy folks!

Today we started out with Science; we discussed what biomes are, but more importantly we were taught how to do close reading of non-fiction texts. To do close reading, we have to read and reread the text several times over in order to make sense of the information. Most of the time, non-fiction texts such as a science book has a lot of vocab and dense information that's hard to understand when reading the first time around. We reread in order to make sense of it all, such that we are able to put the information in our words. When we are able to explain the information in our own words, we can then look for the main idea and the important details of the text. We then write down the main idea and the important details (in our own words) in our science notebooks.

We also listened to a few student council candidates' speeches and a couple of Me Bags:

For math, we got out there and found the perimeter of various figures on the playground with rulers! The doozy for us was trying to explain how we found the perimeter in written words! It was a mind blower, as most of us thought math only had to do with numbers! It's not just the answer ladies and gents. It's about the process and the explanation too!

We created creatures today and list adaptations that would have it survive in a biome. We really got into and some of the creatures that we created were quite outrageous!

When we had a free chance we finished up our food writing, as well as our word problems that we created:

Here's a song for the day folks:

And that's the rundown for Friday folks! Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
