Today we went over pulling out details in an article and and then looking at those details to assess what the main idea of the article is. The first thing we did was read out the article as a whole. We then got into collaborative groups to reread the article, highlight any details we felt were important, and then we wrote that detail down on our graphic organizer. After collecting a bevy of important details, we used those details to determine the main idea of the article.
In Science Class with Mrs. Daly, we discussed electricity, which is a flow of electrons. We utilized conductors to make a circuit, and then combined these conductors with a power source to light up our light bulbs. We then tested various items to see if they were good conductors of electricity or if they insulated the electricity from passing.
Here's on "old school" clip on electricity:
In math today, we had a discussion on arrays, square numbers, and prime numbers. This was just an on-the-surface run-through, and we'll be going more in depth with these concepts throughout this unit and throughout the year.
We began making our array cards today which which help us find factors of 2-digit numbers up to 50 as well as help us identify characteristics of numbers, including prime and square numbers.
I also had lunch with two students because they cashed in their P.R.I.D.E. tickets to dine with me!
