Roasted Bone Marrow AND Grilled Hangar Steak @ The Table

Happy Monday y'all!

We started the day out heading to the Scholastic Book Fair for us to preview the books we want purchase:

We had a nice Writer's Workshop session this morning! The mini-lesson today was to focus on conventions, specifically, the spelling of common 3rd grade words. We identified strategies to remind ourselves to correctly spell the words we almost know by heart. We also discussed strategies to spell words we don't quite know, and how to go about spelling them correctly or close to correct! Another item we talked about was the use of capitals and periods in our writing, and to write out whole sentences and not phrases. Finally, we were reminded that the goal is not to be perfect or be obsessed with correctness when it comes to spelling in our writing, but to try an be a bit more aware of how we spell. Ultimately we still want those wonderful stories to still come forth onto paper, and not have spelling be a hindrance for that!

Adding to a personal word wall!
Word ring!

During math today, we had  a quick Brainstart that combined the use of a number line as and the decomposing strategy to get a solution. It's awesome to see that we're decomposing numbers in a way that works for us!

We then played a math game; Capture 5 is a game that involves adding and subtracting in groups of 10s and 1s to and from numbers up to 100. We "capture" chips by moving a game piece on a 100 chart. The reason we played this game today is to continue to work on adding and subtracting multiples of 10 mentally, as well as to identify arithmetic patterns!

Right before lunch we utilized our science article to make inferences. We made sure that our inference had textual evidence. We also made sure to cite where we got that evidence from:

Coming back from lunch we had a quick word study session that dealt with the grapheme all, which makes the /aw/ sound!

Near the end of the day, we read two chapters from Sideway Stories From Wayside School, and analyze a couple of non-literal phrases in order to get their true meaning. We also continued to develop our inference skills, taking clues/details from the text as a evidence!

Before we left for the day, we had a jelly bean challenge!

And that's Monday for you folks! Cheers!
