Baked Ziti

Hi folks!

We started this grand Tuesday out with some creative writing. This is a chance for the students to either work independently or in groups on a written fiction or non-fiction piece that they want to write:

Afterwards, we got into collaborative groups and worked on activities as well as learn how to engage effectively in collaborative discussions. At the end of the ELA session, we discussed what worked well in the groups that we were in, and what needed to be worked on when we get together the next time to complete a task.

Pulling out that info to support answers. Yeah buddy!

Task 1- Decide on the "best" summary sentence(s) from chapters 4-6 by using ideas from all group
members (Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text)

Task 2- How does Nurse Farthing help people around her feel more comfortable? Find evidence in
the text (Describe characters in a story and how their actions contribute to the events of the
story; answer questions to demonstrate understanding of text, referring explicitly to the text
as the basis for the answers)

Task 3- Use a double bubble to compare Nurse Farthing and Dr. Fargo (Describe characters in a
story and how their actions contribute to the events of the story)

Task 4- What would you have done if you were Henry when he wanted to run away? (Distinguish
their own point of view from that of the narrator or those of the characters)

Before we get into collaborative groups tomorrow, we're going to discuss the difference between quality work and not-so-quality work. Got to make sure you're putting forth your very best, you know?

We had a small amount of time for math today, but manage to eke out a few additional arrays during that time. Only two more sheets to go!

And here's a student ready to chomp down on a gnarly-huge beetle (with permission from mom and dad of course!) Tastes like liver! Yummy!

Down the gullet it goes!

And here's Jimmy Kimmel's annual "I Ate All of Your Halloween Candy" clip. It's so hilarious, and almost show-able at school, except that in the very last part of the clip, a child's swear word is bleeped out. The whole clip is way hilarious, I'd say it's appropriate for kids to watch, but please view your own discretion.

And that's Tuesday for you folks! Cheers!
