Hardboiled Eggs

Hi there folks!

Today we got into collaborative groups to finish up the last activities for Chocolate Fever. Again we discussed how to effectively work with one another, how to be diplomatic when disagreements occur, and how take peers' ideas and feelings into consideration.

Group Tasks:

  • Decide on a “best” summary sentence from Ch. 10-12 using ideas from all group members. (Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text; recount stories and determine the moral or lesson using key details from the text)

  • Find quotes or situations that show how Mac treated Henry—physical things like when he smiled or helped Henry in some way. (Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for answers)

  • Answer this question: How do you know what kind of person he is? (Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for answers)

QUICK WRITE- USE DETAILS FROM BOOK TO SUPPORT YOUR ANSWER

Quick Write: Turn to Chapter 11 and find ONE sentence that tells Henry what lesson needs to learn. What does this lesson mean? Give an example of this lesson in real life.

Quick Write:  At the end of the book, Henry seems to discover that he loves eating cinnamon. Do you think Henry will go on to eat cinnamon as much as he ate chocolate? Why or why not?

Quick Write: Is there is such a thing as Cinnamon Fever? Why or why not?

And throughout the day, while students were completing their Chocolate Fever tasks in groups, others worked on their creative writing pieces:

And two students tried their hand at eating a bug today. One ate a beetle and one a ate cricket:

Bam! That's Thursday for ya! Cheers!
