Beef Tamales

Howdy folks! Hope you're all having a lovely break thus far!

What have I been doing the last couple of days?

On the 24th...

I ran in the morning! Gotta burn off those holiday calories ya' know?

Then I went to the palace of insanity known only as Costco! Had to pick up a few items for brunch on Christmas. Who knew it there would be mass pandemonium at 10:30 in the Almaden Plaza?

It did not look this serene on the 24th!
In the evening I went up to my uncle's house in the East Bay, and we celebrated Christmas Eve!

Opening up presents like savages!

On the 25th...

My wife and I decided to be grown-ups about it, and host Christmas brunch at our place for the VERY FIRST TIME!

My lovely new 5-quart saute pan!

You're not seeing things. That's three pans full of sizzling bacon. I ended cooking 5 pounds of bacon. Om nom.
Check out that bowl of delicious bacon grease. Yummy.
Our Christmas brunch spread. Yes, I cooked most of it. No, I didn't give anyone food poisoning. Success!
We opened presents that morning too! Look at all the cool swag I got!

This cocktail shaker is super fancy! Super insulated and the silicone top makes it easier to open!
Finally got a cast-iron pot! Yeah buddy!
Don't have to drink tap water that taste like diapers anymore!
Got some foreign adult sodas and bubbly!
Gonna learn how to make bread!
An upgrade from our itty-bitty rice cooker
Notice the two bacon-infused olive oils at the end!
HOT!
In the eveing we heaed to Molly's dad place for some drinks and eats!

Had a bunch of appetizers and sangria for the cocktail hour!

And we had salmon for dinner!
Yesterday...

Molly and I slept in and then we went to a triple feature! I thought it was funny that all the movies we watched on this day was based on real-life events!

A snippet of the excessive overindulgence of the late 80's and early 90's. Really intense. Really good.

This was not too bad. I think Walt Disney Studios sugar-coated it a bit, but we are talking about Disney here.
We took a break for dinner and ate at Paxti's. I'm not a big fan of deep dish pizza, but this place serves up some the best, in my opinion! And it might sound weird, but putting honey on the thick, flaky, buttery, crust is sooooo delicious!

We went back to the theaters and saw our last movie for the day!
Another intense movie. But it was good as well. Talks about the ABSCAM operation of the late 70's and early 80's.
See ya' folks!
