In the morning we got down with ELA, got into collaborative groups and read some fables. After reading a fable once, we went back to tread for specific purposes and these purpose were:
- To describe characters and their traits int he story using evidence from the text as support.(RL.3.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events)
- To look for words we did not understand or found interesting and define those words using various resources. L.3.4 Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning word and phrases based on grade 3 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies L.3.4a Use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
- Understand the lesson or the moral of the fable and look for details that support the lesson or moral (RL.3.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers RL.3.2 Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text)
For math, we partook in a collaborative activity that involved rounding and subtraction! We looked at various ads and catalogs, chose an item, rounded that item's price, and used that rounded price to subtract from the amount of money that we had. We then switched and we coached our to do the rounding and subtraction! (NBT.A.1 Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100 NBT.A.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction)
After lunch we continued to work on our writing! (W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly)
Have a fantastic weekend y'all!
