This morning we continued to work on our understanding of subtraction using manipulatives yet again! We also tried another collaborative technique; this certain technique is called Guidance Counselor and it seems to be hit with the students. More so than Rally Coach that we used yesterday!(NBT.A.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction SL.3.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 3 topics and texts, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly SL.3.1b Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways, listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion SL.3.1c Ask questions to check understanding of information presented, stay on topic, and link their comments to the remarks of others)
We then discussed character traits using the story of The Three Little Wolves and The Big Bad Pig!
(RL.3.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events RL.3.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers)
Before lunch, we had a session in the computer lab, and coming back from lunch, we worked on editing a few student rough drafts as whole class, and continued to work on our Thanksgiving Break writing! (W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly W.3.2a Introduce a topic and group related information together; include illustrations when useful to aiding comprehension. W.3.2c Use linking words and phrases (e.g., also, another, and, more, but) to connect ideas within categories of information W.3.2d Provide a concluding statement or section)
Near the end of the day, we did a first reading of our Science Spin mini magazine, in preparation for our homework tonight, and tomorrow we are going to use the mini-magazine to answer some close reading questions!
And ten minutes before school let out, we had a quick formal assessment in order to check our understanding on subtraction!
Cheers y'all!
