In ELA, we began discussing the concept of cause and effect, and I told the students that I got locked out of my apartment (without my car keys or my classroom keys) this morning because I had an argument with Johnson the plant about whether he should save his paycheck or spend it all on a nice TV. Major cause and effect!

We then got down with science and did more close reading today. I explained to the students that there's always a purpose to reading whether it's for enjoyment or to look for details. Well, today's purposes for reading the science text was to look for three important details (and putting these details into their own words) and to answer a question about adaptations:
We had our first foray into the computer lab today, and explored the Lexia and Dreambox adaptive learning applications.
For math we reaaaallllly got down today, and used linker cubes, 100s grid, and the 100s chart to be able to figure out ways to get to 100. We discussed different strategies in order to get to the number 100 other than your usual algorithms addition and subtraction. Again, we are doing small steps, so that we may have a deeper understanding of the concepts being taught in class.
Nothing like good ol' linker cubes!
Those lines and dots? Linker cube action at its finest!
Kyle decided to use 100 grids instead of linker cubes. Excellent!
We read two more chapters in The Witches, and the most intense part is coming up!
The Grand High Witch in all her glory!
